1. Facebook
A rather obvious one in many respects. Droid X‘s default social tools are pretty crap in all honesty, and the Facebook app makes social interaction infinitely more enjoyable. Offering all the same features as iPhone, but without the lag, this is probably the best build available for any mobile device.
2. Seesmic
Seesmic is – in my opinion – by far the best all-round Twitter client. It offers a myriad of different options, including the ability to manage multiple accounts and share photos and videos. It also has support for location-based tweeting.
3. Twidroid
Twidroid is the only really viable alternative to Seesmic that’s available for Android. It offers much the same featureset as Seesmic, except the interface isn’t quite as nice. That said, it does offer some additional features that Seesmic doesn’t, which may come in handy for the more advanced users.
4. Foursquare
Those of you familiar with the tech world will have undoubtedly have heard of Foursquare already. The basic premise of the service is to offer location based check-ins that reward you with points and the prospect of becoming mayor of a particular location. Some businesses are already catching on and offering discounts to ‘mayors’ of their stores, and it’s only likely to grow in popularity in the future.
As for the app itself, it is much more sleek than it’s iPhone equivalent, and offers all the same features. Perhaps it’s time you jumped on the bandwagon?
5. Flicka
A bit of a contentious addition to the list, but nevertheless, an essential. Flicka is yet to be released, but it is Flickr’s Android based app. All the information released so far looks incredibly promising – it will be the first app to bring the entire functionality of Flickr to a mobile device. As yet, there’s no word on a release date, but with any luck it won’t be too long.
6. Life Stories
This brilliant app allows you to converse with all the other sad souls on websites such as fmylife.com through the medium of mobile communication. You can send in your own updates on how terrible life is, as well as bask in the misery of others.
7. DroidIn
This humble little app has come on leaps and bounds since its initial release, and will undoubtedly continue to flourish into the primary Android app for LinkedIn. It offers a whole host of different features for LinkedIn users, including -but not limited to – the ability to read your inbox, update notifications and mirror your LinkedIn status to Twitter. For those of us who can’t live without LinkedIn, this is your mobile lifeline.
8. MemeTweets
Released only a few days ago, this delightful app will keep you informed on the latest happenigs on Twitter. An essential for any hardcore Twitter user.
9. Meebo
It’s debatable as to whether or not this is strictly a social media app, but there’s no doubt it is at the pinnacle of social interaction. For those that aren’t aware, Meebo is a desktop messenger app that allows you to be simultaneously logged in to all your instant messenger accounts. The Android version is no different, and offers almost all the same functionality.
10. UbranKite
UrbanKite isn’t a revolutionary concept, but it is nonetheless exceptionally useful. It allows you to share information (such as reviews) on a whole host of different locations, such as bars and restaurants.
Bare in mind this is a tiny selection of what is available for the Android, and i’ll be following it up with a more extensive list of apps at some stage.
