Thunderstorm Live Wallpaper

I know that Android usually makes us all think about little green puppies and robotic rainbows, but sometimes, things can’t always be so bright and sunny. Maybe your girlfriend just dumped you. Maybe you lost the chess tournament. Shoot, maybe you live in the South (like me!) and just wish it would rain once in a while!

If you find yourself in similar circumstances or just enjoy the doom and gloom a good thunderstorm brings, you’ve got to check out Thunderstorm Live Wallpaper.

Thunderstorm Live Wallpaper is an incredibly slick, detailed, and fairly realistic depiction of Mother Nature at her finest, and it runs really well, to boot.

Fortunately, you’re not stuck with a one-trick pony, as Thunderstorm Live Wallpaper boasts a pretty full settings menu. From there, you can set cloud count, bolt frequency, wind speed, camera speed, and bolt color. They’re all little things, but they’re the kind of little thing that helps you make your wallpaper experience both unique and totally your own.

I mean, shoot, red lightning? That’s too cool.

Thunderstorm Live Wallpaper is free in the Market, but there’s also a donate version for 99 cents, if you’re so inclined to show the developer some love. If you like lightning, storms, or are just looking for a new wallpaper to use, I’d definitely check out Thunderstorm Live Wallpaper.

A few more pictures as well as download links are after the break.

Christmas Sunrise Sunset changes with time of day and smoke comes from the chimney at night.

Christmas Tree Live just added a frozen tree which looks awesome. Also runs on time of day.

Winter Dreams Live Wallpaper for Android

Now that Thanksgiving is behind us it’s time to start thinking about decorating for winter. Apptastic Media has found a way to turn your Android-powered device into a winter wonderland with their interactive, animated live wallpaper.

The app comes in two versions: free, and a paid “donate” version.

The free version of the app features:
- Realistic interactive time snow effects (moves when you slide your screen)
- Twinkling star light
- Scrolling wide screen background

The “donate” version, which runs US$1.99, includes everything you get in the free version, plus:
- Customization options
- Blue animated border lights
- Amount of snow/stars
- Snow speed/drift
- New star types
- Parallax trees on scroll
- Hide forst/white tree

As with all live wallpapers, Winter Dreams requires Android 2.1+ and a device capable of displaying live wallpapers (some of the older or slower Android’s out there may run 2.1, but may not be able to run live wallpapers).

Don’t forget to show us how you’ve decked out your Android for the Holiday’s in the comments below!

Doom-themed live wallpaper for Android turns your phone into a playground of carnage

Okay, so maybe this isn’t the best choice for businessfolk sporting their new Droid Pros, but if you remember Doom as fondly as we do, you’re probably going to want to check this out. A dev over on xda-developers has posted information on his new Doom-themed live wallpaper — it doesn’t actually draw from the game itself, but he’s taken the bad guys (the important part) and reused them on a flat, stationary playing field of his own design. Basically, your hero strolls around battling baddies as they spawn; when he finally succumbs to his countless festering wounds, he respawns in a different room ad nauseam. It’s available in beta form for free in the Market right now — question is, are you tough enough to load it?

Tetris Live Wallpaper for Android

In the Android Market, you can download the official Tetris game for Android from EA Mobile for about $3. But what if you can’t get enough of the game? Now you can turn your wallpaper into a nonstop game of Tetris with a simple live wallpaper by XDA user jug6ernaut. While you can’t interact with the wallpaper, you can watch the memorizing shapes magically fall into place and be impressed by how smart the…er…wallpaper is. Just run the APK file cited below and you’ll see a new option show up in your wallpaper menu.

The John Lennon Droid: Special Edition

I remember that night like it was yesterday (no pun intended) and it is still hard to believe he’s not with us 30 years later, and that had he lived he would have been as old as my Dad.

Mission To Mars Droid

I must admit that at first I wasn’t a big fan of the little green droid, but I liked the way these black ones glow. Comes with “2001: A Space Oddyssey” ringtone.
