Droid X Mobile Browsers Speed Test

There are several browsers you can roll with when it comes to Android phones, and that’s always a good thing when it comes to Google phones, “choice”.  Each browser offers many different features that may pull you to one instead of the other , the ability to run flash on a non-froyo phone to the super speeds on another browser.   The biggest thing that we all can agree on is that it needs to be fast.
Luckily, PC World thought of a great idea to run some benchmark test to see where all these browsers stood when it came to speeds and the results are somewhat expected to say the least.  Google’s stock browser has improved from 2.1 to 2.2 as they promised but others such as Fennec Alpha and especially the Dolphin browser was a shocker which pulled in last and second to last place.  Our reigning champ was SKYFIRE 2.0 with 8 seconds.
No matter which browser you fancy, features will keep you on board until something new and flashy via update comes along and pulls you, I think chrome to phone is enough of a reason to stay with the stock browser but that’s just my opinion, what do you guys think?

Controlling these many options may look daunting at first. One can easily access these power saving options at your finger tip by having Power Control Widget right at your home screen. The power widget can switch on/off features like Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, GPS, and adjust display brightness. To add the widget to your home screen:

* Touch and hold a blank part of the Home Screen, then tap Widgets.
* Select Power Control.
* Touch and hold the widget to “drag it to the desired location on your Home screen”.

App Review – Spark for Droid X

Screenshot of *Spark (Beta)

Spark you say? What’s that? Spark is a new player in the home replacement game. This is currently in beta and definitely needs some work, but for the social user it may be right up your alley. Spark has a simple premise, your info in one place and easy to access.

Spark uses a simple scrollable environment that is controlled by modules with each module representing information on your screen. Currently there are limited modules and no way to add more at the present time, but with the ability to pick and choose your modules you could tailor your screen to better suit your needs. A nice feature that I have not seen anywhere else yet is a looping app drawer. The headlines module is also something I liked that features scrollable headlines within the module. Once these are pressed it opens up to show you the rest of the post in a full screen format that is also scrollable.

There is only one screen at present for you to use meaning they are aiming at form and function. The one screen features 3 selectable shortcuts that you can customize to your liking. The weather based on your area is automatically pulled in for you. And last but not least it has an app drawer with shortcuts for the phone and web.

Well here comes the answer to the real question. Should I ditch LauncherPro or ADW for Spark? I would say not just yet. Yes it’s simple and gives you your info right in front of you, but it almost feels like an alpha release rather than a beta. With some refinement and a smoothing over of the UI as well as a library of modules that you could pick and choose from, it may be the perfect home replacement for the busy on the go person who needs to access their info quickly. If you can’t resist trying out new stuff I have provided a market link and qr code for you all. Also if you decide to try this out stop back by and let us know what you think.

Battery Widget Review for Droid X

Battery Widget Battery Widget is a Android desktop application which allows users to view the battery information regarding their device right on their desktop. The Battery Widget for Android is specifically designed around the functionality offered by the Android platform to offer the user a chance to view the detailed status of the Android devices battery life. To check the battery information of the device, all the user has to do is tap on the desktop widget and see the battery status. The Battery Widget also allows users with the list of the three most battery draining running on the phone. Most of the time, the list only comprises of GPS, WiFi and the display settings.

The Battery Widget, like most Android widgets, is a simple to use program that can be accessed directly from your Google Android homescreen. Simply look at the widget to see the percentage of battery life you have remaining and click on the widget to bring up the three most used battery consuming options: GPS, WiFi and Display.

Overall Use

The Battery Widget is simple to use and compact. The main widget area features a 1 x 1 grid which means it’s compact enough to avoid taking up to much home screen space, while still large enough to easily read the “percentage” of remaining battery power.

While monitoring your Google Android phones battery power remaining is a nice feature, this widget also allows you to create less battery drain. Simple click on the homescreen widget and three options will appear. These options include GPS, WiFi and Screen options.

I’ve written in the past about Curvefish widgets which offer separate Display, Wireless and GPS toggle switches for each piece of hardware, now with this widget you can take up less homescreen space in order to shut down power consuming steps with a few quick presses of your Google Android display.

User Interface and Functionality

Battery Widget for Android mobile phone operating system is an easy to install Android application which offers an simple user interface that allows users to view the relevant information pertaining to the battery life of the device. The widget is designed in such a way that is does not use too much home screen space. The application is compact in size and easy to understand. The widget it self comes with a 1X1 grid that makes it compact enough to not use up home screen pace but big enough to read the battery information displayed by the widget. Compared to other Android battery widgets, this one uses less space on the home screen area by offering all the relevant battery information in one simple interface whereas other widgets come with separate interfaces for each specific function, which end up in a cluster in the home screen area, unnecessarily using up space on the home screen. Although the widget offers an easy to understand battery information display on the desktop, when a user taps the home screen widget, the widget display three options which include GPS, WiFi and Screen Display. These three options give detailed information on the device’s battery usage and gives a beat by beat account of which application or function is straining the battery. The application also allows users to optimise their device’s battery usage by allowing the users to change their GPS, WiFi and Screen Display settings. Battery Widget for Android OS offers users a chance to turn the GPS and the WiFi functions on or off according to the level of the battery. Users can also change the screen display settings of the device.
